Why an LS?
When Jeep came out with the JK it was and still is one of the best Jeeps ever! The one big thing missing was power. The 3.8 just was not enough. Add bigger tires and some body armor and that slowed us down even more. Our options to give us that extra go are several. From flashing the ECM, Adding a supercharger or swapping in a bigger engine. All these things have pros and cons. Until now the engine swaps were restricted to the Chrysler Hemi. Now another option is aviable to you. The GM LS motor. Why a GM LS?
Longevity. A regular 5.3 will give you a life of 250,000 - 300,000 miles. Compare to the 3.8 where it is not uncommon to need replacing at 100,000 miles (sometimes sooner). Power. The 3.8 is rated @200hp. A stock 5.3LS will give @320HP and lots of aftermarket support to safely add to that with out loosing reliabilty.A 6.2LS stock is over 400HP. Is gas mileage important? Because of modern day electronics a LS motor with AFM (drops to 4 cylinders while crusing) can deliver around the same fuel mileage as the 3.8. Cost? With proper maintence the LS should run three times longer then the 3.8. So if you factor in that the LS hits a home run! Add to the fact that with the MoTech kit we are reusing alot of things already on your Jeep. On the 5.3LS conversion we can reuse the Alternator, P/S pump, A/C compressor, radiator, exhaust and drive shafts. Little things that add up quick! What about POWER? How does all this work on and off road? We know the LS has power but how does it perform? The one thing that really makes this all shine is the GM 6L80 6 speed transmission. Because the gears are so close together there are no gaps (engine running too fast or too slow). The power deliverly is very lateral. No massive burst of power (unless you put your foot in it!). This all makes driving on and off road a real pleasure. A few other things we get asked are what about weight? The LS motors we use are all aluminum. Just a few pounds more then the 3.8. So no modifing suspension needed.
What about heat? Do you need to replace your hood? Answer no. We have put over 30,000 miles on our Jeep conversions with the LS motors never seeing over 220 degrees. On the 6.2 you will have to install a new radiator but that is optional with the 5.3LS. One more thing. If for some reasone the electronics fail on the Jeep with a LS you will get home as it has a stand alone system. I am sure there are more questions as these are the basic ones. Call us or if in Vegas come by and drive one. Just call ahead.
